This network of 22 pediatric orthopaedic and burn hospitals provides state of the art medical services at no cost to children or their families.

We have received notification of two changes to the existing Hospital Clinic Schedule.
The LA Hospital has added a scaled down Clinic (30 to 40 patients) for April 29, 2011.
It will start at 10:00 AM which means we should be in place around 8:30 AM.
Dave Scrimager and I will be out of town at the Salt Lake City Hospital, but both Tom Sheldon and Doc Hayes will be there.
The Salt Lake City Hospital Clinic will be on May 6, 2011 at the normal time.
This Clinic was moved up a week from May 13, 2011. Please adjust your calendars.

Tampa General Hospital has been affiliated with the University of South Florida College of Medicine since the school was created in the early 1970s.
Tampa General is the primary teaching affiliate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine and over 300 residents are assigned to Tampa General Hospital for specialty training in areas ranging from general internal medicine to neurosurgery.
In addition, USF medical students, nurses and physical therapy students all receive part of their training at Tampa General.
Faculty of the University of South Florida College of Medicine admit and care for patients at Tampa General as do community physicians, many of whom also serve as adjunct clinical faculty. TGH is the area’s only level I trauma center and one of just four burn centers in Florida.
With five medical helicopters we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need.
The hospital is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985.
TGH is a state-certified comprehensive stroke center, and its 32-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is the largest on the west coast of Florida.
Other outstanding centers include cardiovascular, orthopedics, high risk and normal obstetrics, urology, ENT, endocrinology, and the Children's Medical Center, which features a nine-bed pediatric intensive care unit and one of just three outpatient pediatric dialysis units in the state.
As the region's leading safety net hospital, Tampa General is committed to providing area residents with excellent and compassionate health care ranging from the simplest to the most complex medical services.

Los farmacéuticos amplían su formación en enfermedades raras

Los farmacéuticos amplían su formación en enfermedades raras

La Federación Española de Enfermedades Raras (Feder) y Farmacéuticos Sin Fronteras han firmado un convenio de colaboración para formar a boticarios en problemas de salud poco frecuentes.
Según informaron ayer las 2 entidades, la iniciativa pretende acercar al farmacéutico la realidad actual de las enfermedades raras con asesoramiento especializado, para que el profesional, a su vez, mejore la atención directa a las personas que viven con un problema de salud poco frecuente (3 millones en España).
La formación será online y comenzará en 2012, a través de la web de Farmacéuticos Sin Fronteras, donde el boticario podrá conocer mediante distintos módulos qué son las enfermedades raras, sus tipos, su contexto a nivel nacional e internacional, la importancia del movimiento asociativo, legislación, campañas, proyectos y actividades de ayuda a los pacientes.
Una vez adquiridos estos contenidos, habrá una serie de módulos específicos para cada enfermedad o grupo de enfermedades, donde el boticario tendrá la oportunidad de formarse específicamente en ellas.
El presidente de Farmacéuticos Sin Fronteras de España, Rafael Martínez, aseguró que "debe fomentarse la formación de los farmacéuticos en enfermedades raras, al menos en su básica sintomatología, para que colaboren junto con el resto de los profesionales sanitarios en la mejora de la calidad de vida de los pacientes".
"Los afectados por patologías poco frecuentes deben soportar una enorme carga, no solo en cuanto a la atención y a los cuidados que deben dispensar a los pacientes, sino al coste económico que una enfermedad rara supone por su carácter crónico, degenerativo e invalidante. Todo ello está agravado aún más por la dificultad existente en el acceso a ciertos medicamentos, y a otros productos y material sanitario excluidos de la Seguridad Social", explicó la psicóloga de Feder Isabel Montero.
